Pleurotus pulmonarius is known commonly as the Phoenix Oyster or Lung Oyster. It is known for it’s large, sometimes translucent fruits when found in the wild. However, when cultivated, this strain is opaque white, with a slightly silver (mostly white) topped cap. It is one of the tastier oysters that I have tried, and it too has a voracious appetite. I have grown these on cardboard, coffee grinds, hardwood sawdust, master’s mix and even pine chips! I would recommend using 15% supplemented sawdust or master’s mix. It will also grow on straw. Temperature range is 60F-90F, and RH is best left in the mid 80% range. Sometimes spiking the RH up to 95% for a day will precipitate pinning.
My cultures come in sterile syringes filled 10cc of premium live mycelium, sterile water, and a carefully chosen proprietary blend of nutrients specific to the species of fungi selected.
