Chicken of the Woods (Laetiporus sulphureus), named after its texture and flavor when eaten. Cultivation is known to be challenging, and mostly only successful when done outdoors with some note-able exceptions. It is available in our library, partly as a novelty, but also for skilled or professional cultivators.
This culture comes in a sterile culture syringe, ready to inoculate spawn. One is most likely to succeed in cultivating this species by expanding this culture into sterilized hardwood sawdust spawn or plug spawn and then using your spawn, once colonized, to inoculate a clean, freshly cut (within 1-2 weeks) hardwood log. It is recommended to use wood that was cut for other purposes and that will be wasted rather than to cut down a live tree.
